XR for change : case study of the Daniel Storm field research in Thessaly region, 2024.
Solastalgia XR
Solastalgia XR is a research based immersive experience by continuum collective that takes subject upon the flooding in Thessaly region, caused by the Daniel Storm in September 2023. Using 3d scan technologies, we collected field data such as testimonial material in the villages of Palamas, Vlochos, Farkadona and Metamorphosis, in order to reconstruct it virtually through the memory of local communities.
Solastalgia describes the emotional distress and sense of loss people feel when their home environment undergoes significant negative change due to forces beyond their control, such as environmental destruction, climate change, or natural disasters. Unlike nostalgia, which is a longing for a place left behind, solastalgia refers to the pain of witnessing a loved home environment being degraded while still living there.
